I got some bad news and some good news involving the Toronto Blue Jays.
The bad news is the Jays lost three out of four games in a series against the Los Angeles Angels.
The good news is a Toronto Blue Jay player was named American League Player of the Week and reached a major milestone in his career in the second game of the Angel series.
I’ll start with the bad news.
After sweeping Philadelphia Phillies last week, the Jays went into the Angel’s series with a five game winning streak.
The Angels snapped Toronto’s streak by winning the first game 4-3.
Jose Reyes went three for four and collected a RBI.
Dustin McGowan pitched five innings, giving up seven hits, two earned runs, two walks, and struck out just two batters.
The Jays lost the second game 5-3.
J.A. Happ pitched 2.1 innings, giving up seven hits, four earned runs, a walk, and struck out four batters.
Edwin Encarncion reached a major milestone in his career during the game. Encarnacion hit his 200th home run. Good Job Edwin!
The Jays got hammered in the third game 9-3.
Encarnaion got two RBIs. Pitcher, Drew Hutchson gave up three hits, three earned runs, four walks, and struck out five batters in 4.1 innings pitched.
“We looked tired today,” said Jay’s manager, John Gibbons after the game. “They (the Angels) outplayed us, plain and simple.
The Jays were able to avoid the sweep by winning the fourth game 7-3.
Jose Bautista went three for four at the plate and collected three RBIs. Mark Buehrle now has a 7-1 win-loss record. Buehrle gave up six hits, an earned run, five walks, and struck out two batters in six innings pitched.
The big news for the Jays this week is Encarnacion was named American League Player of the Week.
In seven games, Encarnacion hit four home runs and collected 10 RBIs. Encarnacion also hit .321 with nine hits in 28 at bats. Awesome Job Edwin! Congratulations!
